PROGRAM DETAILS

I. General Information:

• Clinical Journeys comprises three 8-week trimesters from September to June.
• Classes are held on Tuesday evenings from 6:30pm to 9:00pm (NY), with a 30-minute  break.
• Tuition for each trimester is $650 (totaling $1,950 for the year) with payment due before the first class of each trimester.
• 60 CEs are available for NYS LCSWs, LMSWs, LPs, LMHCs, LCATs, and licensed psychologists at the completion of the program.

II. Course Description:

Trimester 1 focuses on the therapist's experience, probing what it means to work psychoanalytically. Topics include developmental stages, repetitions, dissociation,  fantasies and illusions, and the frame, while also considering different theoretical models and our inevitable personal psychoanalytic preferences and biases.

Trimester 2 focuses on the therapeutic relationship from different theoretical vantages. Central concepts include enactments, defenses, mentalization, self-states, and continued exploration of transference and countertransference experiences -- including love and hate.

Trimester 3 opens with the question "Why Diagnose,” inviting students to consider their perspective on diagnosing and diagnoses. We then explore different psychoanalytic experiences of common in-room manifestations, such as trauma, anxiety, depression,  addiction, anger, and more.

Please note: Clinical Journeys teaches from an LGBTQ+ positive, anti-racist perspective.  As such, our program incorporates readings and discussions designed to help clinicians better serve these populations.
